Developments in Sweden

Together with Animal Welfare Sweden (Djurskyddet), Sea Alarm organized a national workshop on oiled wildlife response and planning, on 4 April 2008 in Stockholm, Sweden.

The workshop was attended by representatives from various Swedish authorities and key response organisations. Sea Alarm gave a general introduction to the subject and Jan-Ake Hillarp (KVF-Swedish rehabilitators association) gave a presentation on Sweden’s experiences with oiled animals in the Fu Shan Hai incident (2003). The workshop demonstrated that the integration of oiled wildlife response into oil spill response planning is becoming a more central issue in Sweden and is progressing in the right direction.
