Dutch oiled bird responder network meets in Brussels
On Saturday April 16 Sea Alarm hosted the board meeting of the Dutch national oiled bird rehabilitation network (SON – Stichting Olievogels Nederland) at its offices in Brussels. The SON board meets twice a year at the residence of one of its founding members, the five Dutch coastal rehabilitation centres who are specialised in the rehabilitation of oiled birds. Since the network was formalised in 2008 to become the oiled wildlife response partner of the Netherlands oil spill authorities, Sea Alarm has been invited to every Board Meeting as an observer and adviser. The SON is an interesting example of a successful national network for oiled wildlife response and preparedness that is recognised by the authorities.
