Sea Alarm presents at OSRL webinar on oiled wildlife response
On 28 January 2021, Hugo Nijkamp, General Manager of Sea Alarm, took part in a webinar on oiled wildlife preparedness and response, organised by Oil Spill Response Limited (OSRL).
In his presentation, Hugo gave an overview of the global level of preparedness to deal with oiled wildlife response, highlighting the variation between countries in terms of preparedness and capacity to handle emergencies. Hugo also presented some key initiatives to improve oil industry preparedness, including the 2019 IPIECA Cyprus workshop where nine oil companies, global experts from the Global Oiled Wildlife Response Service (GOWRS), IPIECA, OSRL and other organisations met to explore global wildlife preparedness and elaborate key recommendations and strategies for the future.
This webinar was an opportunity to recall Sea Alarm’s services, which are accessible to all OSRL’s members under the Service Level Agreement. These include preparedness services, 24/7 technical advice and readiness to be mobilised whether on-site or remotely. Hugo also emphasised the benefits of OSRL’s clients having access to the GOWRS supplementary service to better tackle global marine wildlife emergencies.
Hugo also encouraged OSRL’s clients to sign up for the future supplementary service from GOWRS, which is presently under discussion, as it would help them to better tackle their global marine wildlife emergency risks. In addition to OSRL, who outlined their five-year strategy for Wildlife Emergency Preparedness and Response, GOWRS member, SANCCOB, also participated in the event. Watch the webinar here.
