Chris Morris in Memoriam
The Sea Alarm team was saddened to hear that Chris Morris recently passed away.
Chris was an important ally for Sea Alarm for many years. He joined the Sea Alarm board in July 2008, being elected as Vice-chair in 2010 and then later Chairman in 2012, before stepping down in 2014. His background in the oil industry through roles at Oil Spill Response Limited (OSRL), Texaco/Chevron and as General Secretary of IPIECA gave him a rich expertise and knowledge which was invaluable for us. In 2004, after Sea Alarm had managed the development of the IPIECA Guide on Oiled Wildlife Response Planning, Chris was instrumental in motivating industry to engage with Sea Alarm to ensure the implementation of that guide. This led to the start of the long-term relationship between OSRL and Sea Alarm in 2005 and the many achievements of that collaboration in the field of oiled wildlife response preparedness in the 20 years that followed. When joining the Sea Alarm Board after his retirement, Chris helped us to navigate through an always dynamic work field, connect us with key people and widen the impact of our activities.
After his retirement from the Sea Alarm Board, Chris continued to follow our work and a few years ago he wrote to say he was proud to have been part of Sea Alarm’s evolution. We too are very proud to have worked with him and always enjoyed his warm and cheerful personality with a great sense of humour. We cannot express how grateful we are for having had his friendship and support.
Our thoughts are with Philippa and his family.
RIP Chris and thank you for everything.
