Eight up fundraising initiative
Sea Alarm is delighted to have been named recently as a beneficiary of the Eight up fund-raising initiative. This is the brainchild of maritime lawyer Colin de la Rue, who this year has taken a Sabbatical from his partnership at law firm Ince & Co to climb 8 mountain peaks around the world in aid of 8 charitable causes.
Sea Alarm is honoured and very proud to have been selected as one of the 8 charities that Colin aims to raise funds for. This was also thanks to a recommendation from Karen Purnell, Managing Director of ITOPF, who says: “We have followed the development of Sea Alarm since its formation in 1999 and applaud its successful promotion of a strong operational network of marine wildlife responders in Europe and beyond. Sea Alarm has established an international reputation – in government and industry circles alike – as an independent oiled wildlife response facilitator and an initiator of many innovative activities, thereby placing marine wildlife emergency response and preparedness in Europe on a more professional footing. ITOPF has collaborated with Sea Alarm in several joint endeavours and during spill responses, and we consider the organisation to be a key partner in the field of oil spill response and preparedness.
Colin will give a talk on his endeavours on Thursday 3rd March 2011 for the Royal Geographical Society at the Ondaatje Theatre, 1 Kensington Gore, London SW7, 6:00 PM. Tickets can be ordered from Eight Up Appeal (via the Eight Up website).
Sea Alarm again extends its sincere thanks to Colin, wishing him well with his future endeavours!
