Sea Alarm At The 2024 IOSC

Sea Alarm at the 2024 IOSC

The ladies of the Sea Alarm team had a successful week at the 2024 International Oil Spill Conference (IOSC) in May in New Orleans. We had the opportunity to present a range of topics, including the use of serious games as a tool to better prepare for emergencies, EUROWA as a European mutual assistance system for oiled wildlife emergencies and co-authoring a paper on the multi-stakeholder Community of Practice for Wildlife Preparedness and Response. Two papers were also co-presented with members of the Global Oiled Wildlife Response System (GOWRS). The first reporting on Sea Alarm and GOWRS involvement in a Tier 3 wildlife exercise in Angola, co-presented with Wildlife Rescue Centre Ostend, and the second giving perspectives on oiled wildlife preparedness in Africa, alongside SANCCOB. The 5 papers presented can be found on our Articles page.

The conference was a great opportunity to catch up with many of our partners and friends to discuss the future of professional oiled wildlife response, the One Incident One Response philosophy and our new suite of serious games packages, OneX and WildX. One of our EUROWA animation films, explaining how authorities can be prepared for oiled wildlife incidents, was also short listed and featured in the conference’s film festival.
