Sea Alarm staff supports POSOW training sessions in Greece and Cyprus
Two National POSOW trainings were held in Cyprus and Crete, Greece in December, 2013. Sea Alarm’s Claude Velter supported the Oiled Wildlife Response portions of both courses, which were given by local personnel who had attended the previous trainings in Brest in May.
These courses are designed to give basic training to local personnel and volunteers, which allows them to safely and effectively capture and provide basic stabilization for oiled birds prior to the arrival of experienced oiled wildlife care personnel.
On Crete, Claude was involved in the hands-on training in search and rescue and stabilization, where his specially designed avian ‘dummies’ were used to create an almost real life situation for the trainees.
Full reports on both courses are available on the POSOW website.
